Mental Healh

Why do we think the way we think?
Why do we feel the way we feel?
Why do we behave the way we behave?

Psychology is the study of human behaviour. How one acts in their life and reacts to occurring events is highly based on internal processes. Processes that are rarely fully understood and lead to behaviours even less understandable. Our thinking and mental state vastly influence the way we understand the world around us, the way we interpret the events that happen to us or the individuals around us and the decisions we make that guide us in life.

People face certain difficult states concerning their personal lives such as anxiety, panic, depression, loneliness, loss, traumatic events, anorexia nervosa or bulimia, and addiction that are hard for one to cope with. Difficult personal states can negatively affect decision-making, everyday functionality and productivity. Even more, it can affect to an extent family, interpersonal or professional relationships reflecting back to the self in a vicious circle of negative feelings.

We often feel the need to talk to a friend and seek support or a second opinion on how to better handle these difficulties. A friend is always needed but is not always the right person to seek support.

The Psychologist is a mental health professional that can provide a scientific, evidenced and unbiased second opinion. He or she is not there to guide but to educate the person that will come to them on what the science of psychology has to say on this matter and present other aspects of the situation that will help the person learn more about themselves and find by themselves a solution to their problem.

The Psychologist does not have an answer to everything, but he or she is an objective third person who can observe what is happening and can provide through conversation, special equipment or applicable techniques an alternative answer to what might seem fixed, dysfunctional or uncertain. As science excels and knowledge rapidly increases psychology evolves, hence several specialisations have been developed to support in depth the needs and individuality of every person visiting a psychologist.
